Home Made Dog Food Ingredients

what ingredients are used in home made dog food?

”We are what we eat” declared the first and the greatest doctor in the world Aristotle. And he was absolutely genius! For many millions of people this statement is a golden rule today. As well as it is for our pets. Due to our dietitian doctors we became concerned and careful about our diets. Recently, the nutrient content of the humans has changed from the industrial (junk food) to all natural, organic, holistic – everything that takes us closer to nature and healthy life.  The same works for the dogs.

Can I feed my dog the same food I Eat?

Surprisingly, not all the ingredients which are healthy for humans are of the same effect on dogs. It’s proved, for instance, that chocolate contains ingredient which improves our bad feel. However, chocolate is harmful to the dog. It can cause contamination and even a dog death. Or an avocado. In spite that avocados are bursting with nutrients--vitamins, A, B-complex, C, E, H, K, and folic acid, plus the minerals magnesium, copper, iron, calcium, potassium ... (ooh!)…It’s toxic for dogs. (see more about warning list ingredients)

Ingredients of homemade cooked diet and raw diet

In general ingredients of home made cooked & raw are almost the same.
The difference is obviously seen even in words.

Raw diet ingredients are served raw.  Like raw meat (of all types: beef, poultry, meat by-products) , bones, raw vegetables (slightly processed sometimes), raw eggs. (More ingredients see in raw diet page)

Cooked diet ingredients are thoroughly cooked. For sample, cooked meat, cooked grains and pasta, soy beans, cooked vegetables, cooked eggs, oils, some types of not fatty cheese (cottage cheese) and so on.( More ingredients see in home made recipes)
The variety of ingredients determines the owner himself in agreement with his dog’s health state and peculiarities. There is great choice of recipes in the dog food home made recipes books to gain to your cooking experience if you don’t have one enough.

No matter what diet you choose for you dog (cooked or raw), all the ingredients of it have to be calculated in right proportions corresponding the size and breed of a dog, to its health state, to age (the puppy, an adult or old dog) and to presence at it those or other pathologies.

Dog food ingredients should be fresh, carefully washed up and high nutritious quality (in an ideal of an organic origin).

Vets about home made dog food ingredients

Vets have various opinions on this issue.
Natural food, raw diet practitioners are opposite to home made cooked method. They claim that heat is the  first enemy for dog’s food. Heat destroys all the nutrients  of a food, they assume. One vet uses raw fish and eggs in recovering diet for one of his dog patients in his book (Dr.Pitcarin) and the result was positive.
Another group of vets advocate cooking process as one which prevents from getting parasites from the raw meat. Alike about the raw fish and eggs. « Raw fish and eggs are forbidden in a dog's diet. Consistent consumption of raw eggs makes a dog's skin flaky as eggs lessen the biotin available in their body and the usual results are dermatitis and hair loss. Raw fish creates a thiamine-deficiency in a dog, and its effects are loss of appetite, abnormal posture, weakness and sometimes death.» Diet Guide For Dogs, by John D. Ross.
